Levi Ackerman
Levi Ackerman, commonly known as Captain Levi?), “leader of the troops”) of the Special Operations Squad within the Survey Corps and is widely known as humanity’s strongest soldier.
He is known as humanity’s most powerful soldier and the head of an elite squad in the Survey Corps. Hange says he is a bit of a “clean freak”. He is said to be blunt and unapproachable, but he is noted to have a deep respect for authority, structure, and discipline.[volume & issue needed] The side story Attack on Titan: No Regrets reveals Levi’s origins, revealing he was part of a band of thieves using the Vertical Maneuvering Equipment before he is scouted by Erwin to join the army. Later, Captain Kenny Ackerman explains that Eren and Historia were captured because of Levi, who he refers to as “Levi Ackerman”. Kenny raised Levi after his mother Kuchel died and is revealed to be Levi’s maternal uncle. Later in the manga Attack On Titan, Levi suffers an injury caused by an explosion orchestrated by Zeke Yeager (the brother of Eren Jaeger). He was near death when Hange Zoe found him, fled with his body, and later made an alliance with Commander Theo Magath and Pieck Finger to defeat Eren Jaeger. Eventually, Levi recovers and joins the others in battle, killing Zeke in order to fulfill his promise to Erwin to kill the Beast Titan. Levi was modeled after Watchmen character Rorschach and his name is derived from a child Isayama noticed in the documentary Jesus Camp. Levi is voiced by Hiroshi Kamiya in the Japanese adaptation and by Matthew Mercer in the English one.
Appearance
Levi has short, straight black hair styled in an undercut curtain, narrow, gray eyes with dark circles under them, and a deceptively youthful face. He is quite short, but he has a well-developed physique due to the extensive use of vertical maneuvering equipment. He is usually either frowning or expressionless; this combined with his extremely calm demeanor makes it difficult for others to guess what he is thinking.
Typically, he’s wearing his Survey Corps uniform with a light gray shirt underneath, plus a white ascot. Whenever he embarks on expeditions outside the Walls, he also wears a green hooded cloak from the Survey Corps. While on leave from his duties due to injury, Levi appeared in a black suit, a plain white shirt, an ascot, and dress shoes. For most of the time, as the Survey Corps fled from the military and monarchy, he wore his vertical maneuvering equipment harness over casual clothes.
In the aftermath of a close encounter with Zeke Yeager and a Thunder Spear, Levi now has several scars across his face, including one across his right eye, and he is missing both index and middle fingers on his right hand.
Personality
As a result of his early childhood years, Levi is described as a “clean freak” by his friends who prefer their environment and him to be spotlessly clean. He is averse to getting dirty either himself or his equipment, and is known to wipe down his blood-smeared blades while still on the battlefield. However, he won’t hesitate to touch filth if he deems it necessary.

Levi occasionally loses his calm demeanor and uses threats or violence against other members of the corps to make them listen to him. As an example, he ordered Historia Reiss to assume the role of queen when the question was posed to her. When she shakily claims she is unfit, he grabs her and lifts her high above the ground, choking her and telling her to fight back if she does not like it. He then drops her and yells at her to make a decision, but he is calm once again when she submits.
History
Levi is the son of Kuchel Ackerman, a prostitute who worked in the Underground and became pregnant by one of her clients. Kenny Ackerman, Kuchel’s older brother, went to the city to see her one day and found that she had died. The young and squalid Levi was sitting in front of his mother’s bed.
In a rare act of compassion, Kenny took care of him. Levi was raised as best he could, helped with knife skills, interpersonal relations, and violent behavior. Levi also learned to use the power he had been gifted with as a member of the Ackerman clan.
As time passed, Kenny ended up teaching Levi everything he knew. He wasn’t a very good father figure, however. On a certain day, Levi fought in the underground city, which he easily won. Kenny walked away from Levi at that moment, confident that he had taught him the survival skills he needed.
He later became a notorious thug in the underground, but eventually left to join the Survey Corps. Although at odds with Erwin, he became a trusted adviser to him.
Abilities
Levi is an unbelievably adept user of the vertical maneuvering equipment, nearly perfecting it even after losing several fingers. He is said to be as valuable as a brigade, outweighing all of the other troops. Additionally, he was considered a very strong person before joining the Survey Corps.
It has been shown that he can incapacitate the Female Titan by moving too fast for her to defend, something that even Eren in Titan form couldn’t do. Even Zeke Yeager, a Marley army warrior and Titan, who is among the strongest and most skilled in the army, was able to come to blows with him in his Beast Titan form. In neither case was there much planning or situational advantage, as the Female Titan was fatigued from multiple conflicts in a few hours and Levi had sneaked up on Zeke unnoticed, getting too close to defend against before Zeke noticed. Although this is true, Levi’s blade abilities remain amazing, allowing him to cleave the Beast Titan’s arm into several clean pieces so quickly that they fell together. Nevertheless, Levi has shown that he is able to stand up to possessors of the power of the Titans in a one-on-one situation where his vertical maneuvering equipment can be effectively utilized. For example, Levi again beat Zeke in a forest terrain where his vertical equipment could be properly utilized.
Intelligence
Aside from his impressive battle skills, Levi is known for his ability to analyze situations and make informed decisions when under great stress. It has given him the ability to save himself and his comrades on many occasions, such as when he realized that the Female Titan could not be killed easily due to her hardening and regenerating abilities, and saved Mikasa from her attempt at killing her, or the time he used a double-barreled shotgun and a chair to defeat Kenny
