Caravans are not a vehicle we use daily, so it does need to be safely stored when we aren’t using them, there are lots of options for caravan storage, so here are some things to keep in mind.

Where To Store

If you’re lucky, you might have a property large enough to store your caravan. But not everyone has this chance. If you need help, there are companies that offer caravan storage in Melbourne, such as Strong room Caravan Storage. These companies offer you a space to safely store your caravan, with many safety features included.

The Exterior

Before you store your caravan, you should take care of the exteriors in the following ways:

  •     Polish the body and inspect the externals.
  •     Check your tires and wheels to make sure they aren’t exposed to the sun.
  •     Apply grease to moving mechanical parts.
  •     Conduct repairs before storage so things are ready to go.

The Interior

Similar to the exterior, here are some steps to undertake on your interiors.

  •     Vacuum and clean the inside and ensure there’s no dampness.
  •     Remove all food left inside to prevent pests.
  •     Pull out all items that deteriorate or expire.
  •     Leave fridge doors, locker and wardrobe doors open to ventilate and reduce mould.
  •     Leave blinds open but close windows and roof lights.

Water & Drainage

Before you store your caravan, you want to remove all stored water. To do this just open all the water outlets to let standing water out of showers and taps. Also, cover any pipes that are outside your caravan to prevent insects from entering through these openings.

Electrics & Gas

Batteries should be disconnected and stored away from the caravan, in an elevated area. This is because batteries degrade over time, and are affected by extreme weather. By putting it away you’ll make sure nothing degrades over time. Don’t forget to also remove smaller batteries such as power cells, remote batteries, torch batteries and the like.

Now, try not to forget to close the gas and disconnect the regulators from the cylinders. Also, cover the cylinders and pipes with a cap for added safety. Gas cylinders shouldn’t be stored inside your caravan for long periods of time, so you may want to consider removing them, especially in the Australian heat.

Cover Up

In Australia, we see a lot of direct heat from the sun. This means the best idea is to cover up your caravan and keep it undercover for added shade during the height of summer. This way, the externals won’t be degraded as quickly, and your caravan will remain looking and feeling brand new for longer.

But just because winter is milder, it doesn’t mean you ignore that either, a good cover should be used to keep water, hail and storm damage away from your vehicle too.

Now that you know how to prepare your caravan for the off-season, all you need to do is choose the right place to store your caravan safely, and that’s where Strong room Caravan Storage comes in.
